Minimum Qualifications: Certified Medical Assistant/Nursing Assistant certification. Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.

 

Maintain current CPR and First Aid certification. Complete the Department of Public Health’s requirement for vision and hearing screening training. Respect and protect the confidentiality of students, staff, families, etc. Be willing to accept nursing supervision. Demonstrate clerical and computer proficiency. Bilingual (Spanish) language skills, preferred. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: (The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Assists in Health Care activities: Assists with triaging students. Provides some first aid care to children with minor injuries. Reports all illnesses and injuries to the School Nurse for professional review, care and/or follow-up. Contacts parent of ill or injured children when asked. Performs vision and hearing screenings and related tasks such as recording results, sending letters, etc. Weights and measures of students; completes graphs of heights and weights. Assists with preparation for health activities such as physical examinations of students, immunizations, etc. Inputs data into SNAP (electronic health record) per the RN’s request.

 

Performing clerical functions: Records health information such as results of various screening tests, immunization information, etc. Helps to maintain up to date student files including emergency information. Sends notices to parents; tabulates returns and follow-up calls on non-respondents. Provides ongoing communication to the School Nurse regarding the status of health notices. Distributes information, forms, etc. to teachers and administrative staff. Develops computer skills as needed. Other duties as assigned.

 

Supervision: The Certified Medical Assistant/CNA receives supervision from the School Nurse, Director of Health Services and the building Principal(s).
