Description

The Early Education & Care Instructor is responsible for teaching the Ch.74 Vocational Frameworks for Early Education & Care.  The candidate must be able to set instructional objectives, design and prepare lessons, as well as plan and implement supporting activities that meet the standards outlined by the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education.  Additionally the instructor should communicate learning goals, classroom expectations, and responsibilities to administrators, parents, guardians, and students.  It is expected that the instructor will build positive relationships with students in the program and throughout the school community.  


Qualified applicants must forward cover letter, resume, transcripts, proof of MA DESE license and SEI Endorsement (if applicable), and three current letters of recommendation.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • MA DESE license as a Ch.74 Vocational Technical Early Education & Care Instructor

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher related to the subject matter and skills to be taught

    • Three years of recent (within the last seven years), full time employment experience directly related to Early Education & Care

    • Passing score of at least 70% on each test (written test and performance test) in Early Education & Care

    • One of the following:

      • Achieve a passing score on the Vocational Technical Literacy Skills Test (VTLST)

      • Achieve a passing score on the Communication & Literacy Skills Test (MTEL)

  • Knowledge of vocational instructional strategies, EEC curriculum, assessment of student learning, employability skills, and working with a diverse student population

  • Effective classroom management

  • Promotion of high standards and expectations for students proficiency

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all stakeholders

  • Effective integration of technology

  • Promotion of equity and appreciation of diversity

  • Ability to fulfill professional responsibilities

  • Excellent listening, speaking, reading and writing skills

  • Effective interpersonal skills

  • Prepare students for certification as an Early Education & Care teacher in the state of MA, including coordination of CPR and First Aid training


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of departmental curriculum objectives and competencies based on MA State Framework.

  • Teach technical skills and knowledge to provide students with the competence to become skilled in their field.

  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media.

  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects to communicate these objectives to students.

  • Responsible for the integration of curriculum where appropriate.

  • Utilize appropriate resources and educational technology to enhance student learning.

  • Assesses and documents the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.

  • Continuously improves the instruction, curriculum, and equipment so that this CTE area is current with all trends in the field and is fully and properly preparing students for available and emerging jobs.

  • Assist in the selection maintenance of course materials, instructional equipment and educational resources.

  • Plan, organize and provide appropriate learning experiences within assigned area of responsibility.

  • Develop lesson plans and organize class time so that demonstration, instruction, hands-on practice, review and final activities can be accomplished within the allotted time.

  • Participate in the development, evaluation and revision of the curriculum, scope & sequence and objective in collaboration with program director.

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.

  • Prepares for classes assigned

  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy regulation.

  • Maintain appropriate records related to students, attendance, grades, and other documents and insure delivery to the appropriate administrator in a timely manner.

  • Promote student success by engaging students in the learning process.

  • Maintain class schedules and instructional integrity through adherence to lesson plans.

  • Facilitate student retention and placement through positive student interactions.

  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and, for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

  • Maintain and improve professional competence especially as relates to the specific assignment and student grade and subject area appropriateness.

  • Develop positive relationships with community partners in the area and actively solicit their help, including service on the Program Advisory Board.

  • Attends staff and department meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

  • Available to students and parents/guardians for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.

  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

  • Implements the district’s mission, philosophy of education and instructional standards and objectives.

  • Responsible for assuring equal educational opportunity to all individuals regardless of race, color, gender, age, marital status, religion, gender identity, natural origin, sexual orientation, homelessness, or disability.

  • Accommodate student’s special needs and/or those who are undergoing unique circumstances and reach out to as risk students.

  • Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students, colleagues, and parents concerning both the broad academic/vocational and behavioral progress of assigned students.

  • Other duties deemed necessary by the Director of Career & Technical Education

  • Prepares, develops, implements and delivers daily lesson plans to students enrolled in the EEC Program or other assigned class

  • Communicates student behavioral concerns, vocational progress and information to the CTE Department Director or an Associate Principal in a timely manner and consistent basis.

  • Participates and contributes to the professional development process by consistently communicating information, being prepared, and demonstrating behaviors that reflect continuous improvement and teamwork.

  • Tracks student attendance maintains and provides student grades for the purpose of providing documentation of student progress and competency attainment.

  • Adheres to school policies pertaining to grading, posting students grades and quarterly reports.

  • Develops, implements and maintains effective classroom management strategies for the purpose of ensuring a safe and secure, clean, positive and inviting learning environment.

  • Conducts large and small group instruction as well as individual instruction when needed.

  • Maintains a three-day supply of emergency lesson plans that follow the teaching format and define student learning objectives and evaluation procedures for the purpose of ensuring instructional continuity.

  • Ensures the EEC classroom and shop are maintained in a safe and orderly fashion.

  • Develops operational procedures (i.e. shop safety, security, tool, etc.) and documents violations for the purpose of ensuring shop safety.

  • Adheres to the daily and school schedule.

  • Maintains a daily and monthly inventory of all supplies, materials and equipment to ensure all items are accounted for.

  • Utilizes a safety data sheet when applicable.


SUPERVISION:

Supervision Scope: Supervises students and evaluates their achievement and progress in the EEC program or other assigned course


Supervision Given and Received: Supervised by principal, associate principal, and/or director


SALARY:

As per the WEA contract.
