Summer 2024 Middle School ELL Paraprofessional

Overview

Instructional Paraprofessionals are needed to assist teachers in working with newcomer ELL students and supporting English Language development. Paras must demonstrate the ability to work with students under the direction of the teacher, follow directions effectively and be familiar with instructional, and safety procedures. They will support and reinforce the teacher’s expectations for students. Paraprofessionals support multilingual learners to acquire language skills and develop their identities as bilingual and bicultural scholars.

Focus of the Program

This program will be open to Waltham Public School students who are ELD level < 1.9 and who will be entering grade 6, 7, or 8 as of August 2024. Students will be engaged in a variety of engaging activities designed to promote academic language aligned with the 2020 WIDA Standards. Instruction will be culturally responsive.

Terms of Employment

The program will be held Monday July 1, - Friday July 26, 2024 (excluding July 4 & 5) at the McDevitt Middle School. Program times for students are 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.

Salary

WEA Contractual rate for hours worked up to 90 hours.
